Vintage Movie Poster Collection

"White Cargo", MGM, 1942

Herewith a few of the movie posters I've collected over the last few years, from Heritage Auctions in Dallas, TX (www.ha.com). While I'd love to have an original "Sunset Boulevard" or "All About Eve" (they go for thousands), I find that some of the less popular, less well-known titles have remarkable graphics (I love the "Easy to Wed" mix of cartoon and photography; too bad the movie isn't better). I've also developed a passion for some of the foreign versions of American movies: the Belgian "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves", the Polish "Murder on the Orient Express". In fact, the artwork on many of the Polish posters is brilliant.

I also like how many of the posters show signs of wear and use, which adds to their charm...for me anyway. Most collectors I think prefer their posters pristine. Posters like these can be restored and I did have "Easy to Wed" restored by a very talented man in Baltimore. It's amazing what a talented artist can do.

I can see how people get hooked on collecting stuff like this.

I'll have to rein myself in a little.

Just a little.

"Ali Baba & the 40 Thieves" (Belgian), Universal, 1944
"Easy to Wed", MGM, 1946
"The Star", Warner Bros, 1952

"Murder on the Orient Express" (Polish), EMI, 1974

"That Night in Rio", 20th Century Fox, 1941

"Rainbow Island", Paramount, 1944

"The Rains Came" (Belgian), 20th Century Fox, 1939
